An Operating System is the fundamental software that manages a PC. It handles the way the hardware functions, the communication with peripherals such as a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between applications, and the prioritization of apps in case multiple ones run simultaneously. Every program that is installed on a PC functions by sending requests to the OS for various services by using an application program interface (API). The interaction with the OS is possible through a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the Internet hosting field, the OS is what runs a web server together with all the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but also every other application for instance a VOIP or a game server. If there are virtual machines created, they employ a guest OS that runs on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server packages - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They are all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they're completely free and they won't increase the price of your new server, but also because they are exceptionally stable and secure. Each one of them is supported by a big community of developers, so you will be able to choose from countless software packages that you could install on your server in case the app that you intend to work with has certain requirements. The Operating System will also determine what web hosting Control Panel you can use because the Control Panels that we offer are compatible with specific OSs only and since we would like to give you as much versatility as possible, we offer a couple of OSs and multiple Control Panels. If you get a server with a certain OS, we will change it upon request in case it turns out that you will need a different one. We could also keep the OS updated on a weekly basis as part of our additional Managed Services upgrade.
