If you wish to point a domain that you have to a different domain name or subdomain, a good way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain being pointed loses all its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it's directed to. In this way, if you use a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be redirected to the site that you have set up, but it'll also appear in the web browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all the visitors from different subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because such a record created for the main domain address renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Web Hosting

In case you have a cloud web hosting plan through our company and you want to set up a CNAME record, it'll take you only a few mouse clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domains and subdomains hosted in your account via the Hepsia Control Panel included with every single plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which will be CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the modification. If you've never added this type of record before, you will discover a Help section with a detailed video tutorial which you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we will help you with this task. If you have set up a website using another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you would like to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different company, like Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a couple of mouse clicks in your Control Panel.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with each of our semi-dedicated server accounts, allows you to create a CNAME record without difficulty. Whether you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to redirect a domain name to a subdomain in the account or to forward a domain address to another company and use some third-party service that they provide, it will not take you more than 3 mouse clicks to set up this kind of record. All DNS records for the domains and subdomains hosted inside the semi-dedicated account will be listed in a separate section in the CP, so when you are there, all you will have to do will be to choose the type of the record that you want to set up and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then type in the actual record text. For your benefit, you can see a short video inside the CP concerning how to set up a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that is available in the DNS records section.
